Dog Behavioural Training Services

A dog pulling on the lead who needs a dog behaviourist.

Dogs are incredible, intelligent companions, but sometimes their behaviour can present challenges. If you’re struggling with issues like excessive barking, separation anxiety, leash reactivity, or aggression, a professional dog behaviourist can help. At The Dog Behavioural Trainer, our Delta-certified behaviourists in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs specialise in identifying the root causes of problem behaviours and creating tailored, positive training plans to resolve them.

Common behaviour issues we can help with include:

  • Excessive barking and howling
  • Destructive chewing or digging
  • Separation anxiety and distress when left alone
  • Leash pulling or reactivity towards other dogs
  • Resource guarding or possessiveness
  • Fear or aggression towards people or other animals
  • Inappropriate toileting or house soiling
  • Hyperactivity or inability to settle
  • Obsessive behaviours like tail chasing or shadow stalking

Unlike basic obedience training, dog behaviourists focus on the deeper emotional and psychological factors that influence your dog’s actions. Our approach is based on the latest research in animal behaviour and uses only force-free, science-backed methods to ensure lasting results. Whether you need help with a specific issue or want to improve your dog’s overall behaviour, we’re here to support you and your dog every step of the way.

Dog Behaviour Clinic

What is a Behaviour Clinic?

I have teamed up with Dr Findy from Let Talk Paws to create the “ The Pop up Behaviour clinic classes”.

What is the pop up behaviour clinic? The clinic is an opportunity to work not just with me, a Vet Behaviour consultant, but also a behavioural trainer. This gives a holistic perspective on what problems you may be having with your pup using both our observational skills to identify where the behaviour may be coming from and how best to work with it.

Behaviours that we see people struggle with are symptoms from something the dog is struggling with. What we do in the behaviour clinic is identify what the symptom is and where it is coming from and how to work with it.

Many behavioural issues we see come from things most people don’t recognise or know what to look for. That is pain an undiagnosed allergy or gut issue, noise reaction e.t.c

(what is the average of the work you do that can be attributed to pain)

Who is the class for? Any dog owner that has questions about their dog. What our goal is, is to help every dog owner understand the where the why and the how of the behaviour or behaviours they may be struggling with. Working with another species that cannot tell us “why” they may struggling is hard. We are here to help.

Through the course you will learn to understand where the behaviour is coming from and how to work with your dog to help. This is during the class observations as well as the weekly zoom catch up that we have. This is to help with the progression learning and understanding. So you have us not just during the classes but also in real time in between our sessions, how cool is that.  Each week we will have a zoom catch up, this is so we can see how your progress is going and help you with next steps.

If you would like to know more book in your ENQUIRY CALL today. Next classes start in March.

Behavioural Modification Training

Behavioural modification training is more complicated than basic obedience training; essentially what we will be doing is changing your dog’s conditioned emotional response to a stimulus.

What that means, for example, your dog becomes anxious or stressed or aggressive every time you put him in the car, or becomes reactive and barks and lunges when they see particular people or dogs.

Maybe they become anxious when you leave?

These types of behaviours will not be fixed using basic training or forceful methods, nor will they be fixed over night. Their emotional response needs to be adjusted and reinforced.

Anxiety, aggression, reactivity and resource guarding are behaviours that grow over time so they will take to work with.

Behavioural problems such as:

  • Aggression
  • Anxiety
  • Phobias
  • Reactivity
  • Obsessive compulsive behaviours
  • Resource guarding

We have a package that will suit yours and your dogs needs. Our packages are designed to help you build solid progress in real time.

Follow up session:

Follow up sessions are for those clients that have completed their initial consultation, either via Zoom or in person.

A follow up session helps with continuing progress as well as making sure the behaviours you are working on are becoming solid foundations.

So if you have completed and initial consult please book now.
